A Home Assistant hub running on hardware you own, at a LAN address you can reach two different ways without any vendor app, with analytics confirmed off and no cloud account attached; one real device you adopted yourself — an ESP32 running ESPHome firmware Claude Code wrote — reporting to that hub over your own Wi-Fi; an automation that notices when your household's internet connection drops and says so on the board's own LED and on your phone over a LAN-only push path; an encrypted backup downloaded off the hub and verified without restoring it; and a written internet-off drill you have actually run, with recorded evidence of exactly what kept working, what stopped, and why.
